The Unconventional Rise of Lu-Tang in the World of Hip-Hop
In today's episode we introduce you an upcoming artist from New York City : Lu-Tang !
We interviewed him few days ago :
"I have been rapping since I was at least 10, I’m 24 now. It was mainly gibberish back then, you can still hear hints of that now. As a young kid, I was obsessed with all music but once I discovered rap, it became my main passion. I would record raps over popular instrumentals at the time like 'Moment 4 Life' and 'You're a Jerk.'
I didn't rap much in middle school but then started again in early high school where I dropped 4 mixtapes all on Bandcamp. It was a really fun time, all freestyles again, that's kinda been my thing. But I never really took it seriously.
Fast forward a few more years to college I met my good friend Ben Delicious and we started freestyling together as white dudes at a liberal arts school tend to do. At this point, I regained my confidence and my love for rapping. Later that year, Ian a.k.a yantrack, came into the picture.
We started making music together, I would rap over a random instrumental, send him an acapella, and he would build a beat around it, a feat I am always impressed with. We did a few of these and realized there's quite a synergy between us. My non-sensical bars paired with yantrack's off-kilter, yet enticing and vibrant beats was the blueprint for something really special. Ian always encouraged me to rap more and lifted up my verses and made me go harder. 'Mustard Green Freestyle' is the second single from our mightily anticipated collab project "Tanguage," which will release this summer.
It is about 12-14 tracks, all under two minutes. We are very excited to finally drop it. There is a lot more heat coming, it's been going on three years in the making and we can't wait for the world to get a taste of it."
Lu-Tang is truly an artist apart from others in the rap scene, and that's why you should follow him !
