Breaking Through the Underground: The Story of Don Amirio's Success
In today's episode we introduce you an upcoming artist from Toronto, ON : Don Amirio !
We interviewed him few days ago :
"I first started guitar lessons at 9 years old, but really got into making my own music at 20 after a tough breakup. I channelled all the hard feelings and my love for music to make my first song, “Walk Away” on SoundCloud.
I have a tendency to not express my emotions and to be closed off, but artists such as Mac Miller, XXXTENTACION, and Juice Wrld, inspired me to use music as a vessel to let out all the pent up emotion.
I quickly became obsessed with the catharsis of making my own soulful music and over the next 6 years released songs about every 2 weeks while teaching myself music production, and audio engineering. I started out making all my own beats, mixing and mastering all my own music. To this day I still mix and master my own work, but on occasion work on other beats that inspire me.
My new song “Used To” is a culmination of my musical and audio design abilities to create something new and exciting that breaks traditional song structure. The goal was to create a floaty, melancholic, and somewhat mysterious vibe.
The song is about feeling down for so long that you become used to and numb to it, and becoming numb to whatever was used to escape those feelings. The song creates this feeling with gritty lofi textures, sparse introspective lyricism, and creative sound design.
I hope listeners can find a calm familiarity in the song to offer solace in troubling head spaces, or just a cool night drive type of tune to chill with. "
